Guitars have been heading farther and farther into the extended range for quite a long time now, since Steve Vai popularized the whole 7-string guitar with his Ibanez guitars.  Korn used them in a different way, and tons of bands since have jumped onto the 7, 8, and 9 extended range guitars.  Check out Animals as Leaders...crazy stuff.

A cool band stopped by the WGRD studios this week to say hi and play us a couple of their songs, totally stripped down and acoustic.  So stripped down, there wasn't even any furniture in the room! Seriously.  Because of the movie filming in the station, we had to sneak off into an abandoned room to hang out and jam! Check out this band, the Lovehammers, from Chicago.

On Sunday, we ended up at a high-rise Super Bowl party that never turned on the game. Ha ha! The view of the Atlantic Ocean from up there was just amazing and most of us never even noticed that the game wasn't on until it was almost over; oops...

One of the country's biggest rock festivals is back this May 16, 17 and 18 in Columbus, Ohio, Rock on the Range! Yes, they've expanded it to three days. So, it's not only bigger, but better than ever with more than 60 bands performing over the weekend! We've got the list of bands for you, so you can prepare for the festival. A couple months ago at my last radio gig in El Paso, Texas, I got to hang out with the guys in P.O.D. and have some BBQ while they rocked some cool acoustic versions of some of their songs.   They were really cool dudes, and had fun playing their songs this way in front a few people at KLAQ 95.5 FM before they hit the stage in front of thousands of people to turn the volume way up!

Shim, Emma and Mark have been bringing their rock out of Australia for four albums now, and the Sick Puppies just keep getting better and better. Emma keeps her place on my most loved rock chicks list, with Floor Jansen of Nightwish and Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy.
