Michigan Woman Has Harsh Words for Brother Who Killed Their Mother
As Muhammad Altantawi was sentenced for killing his mother and staging her death in 2017, his sister shared harsh words in the Michigan courtroom where the sentencing took place.
Nada Huranieh Found Dead Outside Her Home
The body of Nada Huranieh was found outside her Farmington Hills home in 2017. Investigators discovered that Huranieh had been suffocated by her son and that her body had been thrown out of a second-story window.
Huranieh's then-16-year-old son Muhammad Altantawi was arrested for his mother's death, as investigators believed he had staged the scene to make it look like the 35-year-old woman had accidentally fallen to her death.
Altantawi was handed a sentence of 35 to 60 years in prison yesterday in a Detroit courtroom.
Killer's Sister Shows No Mercy
Altantawi's sister Aya Altantawi was present in the courtroom as the judge read her brother's sentence.
“He could die today, and I would not go to his funeral,” Altantawi said of her sibling. “I would throw a party instead. I don’t care about him.”
In the video below from Detroit's WDIV-TV, Altantawi says she's spent the last five years trying to show empathy for her brother.
“These past five years have been a lot,” Aya Altantawi said. “I’ve tried to sympathize. I’ve tried to be empathetic.”
Brother Claims Innocence
Throughout the four-hour sentencing proceedings, Altantawi maintained his innocence, often rambling nonsensically.
His father corroborated his son's claims that he had been wrongfully convicted. Aya Altantawi, however, made frequent interruptions and was eventually removed from the courtroom.
