Farewell to Sushi Kuni

It’s always bittersweet when a longtime local favorite closes its doors, and Sushi Kuni was one of those places Grand Rapids diners truly loved. For 15 years, the cozy Japanese and Korean fusion spot in strip mall near 28th Street served up crispy dumplings, savory Korean pancakes, spring rolls, stir fry, bulgogi, bibimbap—and, of course, plenty of fresh sushi.

The owners describe the new restaurant as a heartfelt collaboration between a mother and child—a dream come true that’s rooted in family and food.

“Our mutual love for Korean cuisine and deep desire to share the rich traditions and flavors of our culture have guided us on this journey,” they shared. “Every meal we serve is prepared with care, authenticity, and the hope that it brings people together, just as it always has in our own home.”
