Former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy told Rolling Stone he’s excited to have award-winning director Ron Howard in his corner for his upcoming directorial debut, a short film he made for Canon’s Project Imaginat10n campaign.

Alongside the likes of Eva Longoria and Jamie Foxx, Murphy was one of the celebrities selected to create a movie based on images supplied by amateur photographers. He hopes to premiere the picture in late 2013. Howard, the director of ‘Apollo 13,’ ‘A Beautiful Mind’ and ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ will mentor Murphy as the singer tries to figure things out.

“I don’t know what I’m doing, but that’s what I’m excited about,” Murphy told the magazine. “Now I’ll be able to call Ron Howard, which is super weird. This is the beauty of having been in a band that did well enough, I guess. You have access to something as crazy as this.”

While Murphy again declared that LCD Soundsystem is dead, he hasn’t turned his back on music altogether. In May, he contributed a song to an art installation in Washington, D.C., and he told RS he’s been recording with A-list bands. “I’m not going to curl up and die. I’m doing things that I would never have time to do, like go work on a couple of songs with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs,” he said. “After those 10 years with the band, I wanted to go back to that state of trying things and just seeing what happens. It’s exciting.”
