Cameron Thorning got the thrill of lifetime, when he lifted a Grand Slam home run over the right field wall to rally the Taylor North to a 6-5 win over Abilene TX

Thorning's base cleaning blast came following a three hour rain delay at Volunteer Stadium, which frustrated Cameron's dad and Taylor North coach Rick Thorning.

“That was frustrating,” the elder Thorning told USA Today. “Our kids just wanted to play. We tried to stay around the ball field and visualize it ... but if you just let them relax and let them be kids, it’s going to work out.”

Taylor North was trailing 5-0 when play resumed, but the team regrouped following the long rain delay.

Thorning's slam made it 5-4 in the bottom of the second inning. The Michigan nine then went ahead in the fifth inning when Jaxon Shufedlt drove in a run with a ground ball, and then a throwing error on the play allowed the lead run in to make it 6-5.

The score stuck.

Relief pitcher Gavin Ulin shut down the Texas team for four innings to earn the win. It was Thorning who got the save, getting the last out on three pitches.

Taylor North moves on in the winner's bracket, facing Hawaii on Wednesday evening in the winner's bracket. The winner of that game will be in the Hank Aaron Division finals.

The Aaron winner will then move on to the championship game Sunday against the winner of the Tom Seaver Division.

This year's Little League World Series is compromised of all American teams for the first time since the '50s due to the Covid virus, which prevented international teams from traveling this year.
