For many competitors, preparing a derby vehicle is a year-round project, making these events a cherished family tradition both on and off the track.
There's a reason state fairs, county fairs, and small rural communities host an annual demolition derby, they draw the crowds. Often the most anticipated event of the fair, demolition derbies regularly attract packed grandstands and can even outshine live music performances in popularity.

Sand Lake Gears Up for the Ultimate Demolition Derby
The mother of all demolition derbies rolls into Sand Lake on July 4, 2026, featuring a spectacular motorhome derby and a full night of high-octane destruction. The Red, White & Boom Night of Destruction takes place on 9th Street, just off W. Lake Street near the water tower and City Park.
The Sand Lake Demolition Derby kicks off at 4 p.m. with a full lineup of high-impact action. In addition to the crowd-favorite motorhome demolition derby, fans can enjoy Mod and Stock FWD Off-Road Derby, Youth and Powder Puff FWD Stock Off-Road Derby, Stock FWD Derby, Stock Minivan Derby, and more.
General admission tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. near the water tower and are $20. Admission is free for children ages 3 and under. Free parking is available, and guests are welcome to bring small coolers.
