The battle between Michigan and Michigan State fans is a tale as old as time, with each school constantly trying to one-up the other in every sport. The University of Michigan has won two National Championships in the last three years, in football and men's basketball.

However, it's also true that the athletic departments at these two schools are in a strange state after multiple high-profile scandals, coaching firings, and high-profile departures. But it's summer vacation, and we're choosing to put that aside right now to focus on the pride of being a fan, which was recently put on display in a big way.

Mackinaw City's New Sparty and Wolverine Statues

In 2024, an absolutely massive 30-foot Transformers-inspired statue, lovingly called Mack-A-Tron, appeared at Mackinaw Crossings in Mackinaw City. It broke the internet and was quite a hit around the shopping outlet.

While the statue is impressive and was reportedly inspired by Michigan's legacy in the auto industry, the two new statues recently unveiled are unequivocally Michigan. Michigan and Michigan State's mascots now stand tall in Mackinaw City crossings.

No exact details have been announced yet about the statues, but based on these close-up videos of Sparty, it appears to be keeping with the auto-parts theme started by Mack-A-Tron. Sparty appears to be "mechanical", with his arms and legs covered in springs and gears.

Once full details on the statues are released, we'll update this article with more information.
