Avatar is a cool Swedish metal band that's beginning to break through here in the US with their song "The Eagle Has Landed", from the new album Feathers and Flesh. They're out on tour with Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat, and we were lucky enough to get them into the studio to tell us funny stories! The guys are really funny.

Australia has a lot of things going for it: the hot women, the great actors, the scary insects that will kill the crap out of you...and great bands! One of the great Aussie bands is Twelve Foot Ninja, and we got to see them on Tuesday at the Intersection with Sevendust.

Thursday night, UK band SikTh rocked The Intersection while opening for Periphery, with Toothgrinder, and Chon. I've heard a lot about this band, and about their crazy and amazing live performances. They didn't disappoint on the technical music, for sure!

Thursday night, Periphery hit the Intersection with more great metal bands for a heavy and technical night of music. The crowd was moshing, headbanging, and singing along with the crazy music all night. Great show at the Intersection.

One of the first things I saw today is another fun cover song from Leo of Frog Leap Studios. It's always a good day when he posts one of his amazing metal covers of a pop song. He takes those silly pop things and turns them into something people would actually want to listen to!

Okay, I never met my grandfathers, but I'd like to think they were cool as s***, like this guy. Not only was he a Navy pilot, he was also program manager for the instrument made to repair the Hubble Space Telescope! And now, he's also a karaoke singer who loves to sing Drowning Pool's "Bodies"! I want him for my grandpa!

I'm a huge fan of metal and shred guitar playing. It's some of my favorite stuff to listen to, and it's always great to see a band that can really shred live. That's why I've been excited to see Holy Grail at the Stache with Devildriver. Sadly, I missed the other bands Incite, Hemlock, and local metallers SkinJacket. It's been quite a while since I've seen Devildriver live, and with Holy Grail also on the bill at the Stache Wednesday night, I have been looking forward to this show for a while! On Wednesday, Killswitch Engage descended on Grand Rapids, with Memphis May Fire, Toothgrinder, and 36 Crazyfists to make as much noise as possible at The Intersection. The place was packed, and everyone was having a blast with the bands!

Metallica rocked the hell out of a packed record store on Saturday evening, and streamed it online. If you missed it, you missed an hour of songs taken from Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning, and an impromptu jam of "Helpless" at the beginning. It wasn't on the setlist, but the guys jammed their way through it anyway, for fun.

Whether Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo giving a Nazi salute and yelling "white power" to the crowd at Dimebash was meant as a "joke" or not, Dutch metal festival FortaRock has decided to cut Down (one of Anselmo's other bands) from the festival lineup.
