Cygnus 27 shut its doors downtown Grand Rapids in March of 2019 in part of the ongoing $40 million renovation project at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.

We now know what's going to replace it.

Wood TV 8 reports that MDRD, pronounced Madrid, will open on the 27th floor of the hotel Nov. 17.

According to the Amway Grand website, MDRD will serve "modern Spanish cuisine including expressive entrées, tantalizing tapas and shareables, along with decadent desserts and lavish libations".

For starters, the current menu lists gazpacho and two salad options. I LOVE tapas, so I was excited to check those out. Looks like a delicious selection, including griddled shrimp with garlic and chili; crispy potatoes; and a Spanish omelette with potato, onion, manchego, and garlic aioli.

Entrees range in price from $30 to $55 and include roasted chicken breast; roasted pork belly; lightly salted cod; pan seared scallops; beef tenderloin steak; and shrimp, chicken, and chorizo paella for one or two.

As far as desserts, I'm VERY interested in the "Arbol de Carmelo" -- which is some sort of cotton candy tree with vanilla anglaise, dark chocolate, strawberry gelato.

I'm also very interested in the panoramic views of downtown GR! I never went to Cygnus 27, so I'll have to check out the new restaurant.

If you want to work at MDRD, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel is currently hiring staff.

MDRD will be open as of Nov. 17, Tuesday through Thursday 4:30p.m. to 10p.m. and Friday and Saturday 4:30p.m. to 11p.m.
