More People are Moving to Grand Rapids than Leaving
Grand Rapids is amongst the top cities in the country where it continues to grow.
U-Haul calculated more than 2 million one-way U-Haul trucks entering a U.S. city [rather than leaving] in 2018 and found the top 25 for growth. The Grand Rapids/Wyoming neighborhood was ranked at #5 when last year it wasn't even on the list! As someone who moved to the area 3 ½ years ago, I can't say I'm surprised.
However, these numbers don't necessarily equal population growth, rather migration patterns, says U-Haul.
...growth data is an effective gauge of how well states and cities are attracting and maintaining residents.
The top 10 Growth Cities in 2018 were:
- Sacramento/Roseville, CA
- Spring, TX
- Manhattan, NY
- Harrisburg, PA
- Grand Rapids/Wyoming, MI
- San Francisco, CA
- Greenville, SC
- Fort Lauderdale, FL
- Madison, WI
- Kissimmee, FL
Even though Grand Rapids saw a lot of growth last year, the same can't be said about the state as a whole. U-Haul also ranked the "Top 50 Growth States for 2018" and Michigan found itself towards the very bottom at #49; only beating out Illinois.
