Reduced Pet Adoption Fees at 15+ Michigan Shelters This July
Summer can be one of the toughest times of year for animal shelters. Warmer weather means more litters of puppies and kittens are being born, while summer storms and fireworks often lead to an increase in lost pets.
Shelters can also see more owner surrenders as families move or face housing challenges.

Many animal organizations across Michigan find themselves stretched thin this time of year. It's not uncommon for shelters to be near or at capacity, like Kent County Animal Shelter shared last week.
That is why a popular nationwide adoption event is returning at exactly the right time!
Empty The Shelters Returns This Summer
The BISSELL Pet Foundation's Summer Empty the Shelters event runs July 5 through July 26, helping connect homeless pets with families while easing overcrowding at shelters across the country.
The program has become one of the largest adoption events in the nation, helping hundreds of thousands of pets find homes since it launched.

During the event, participating shelters offer reduced adoption fees of $70 or less for eligible cats and dogs. Pets go home already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, meaning they're ready to settle into their new lives right away! Every adoption also creates room for another animal waiting for care.
