Michigan DNR Hiring Conservation Officers

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is hiring conservation officers and is now accepting applications for the training academy that starts in January 2025.

Conservation officers are fully licensed law enforcement officers who protect Michigan’s natural and historic resources through law enforcement, including:

Fish and wildlife
State parks
Trails
State forests
Recreational activities such as off-road vehicle riding, snowmobiling and boating

DNR Training Academy Requirements

If you'd to apply, you must meet Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement licensing standards and be at least 21 by the time you'd graduate from the training academy July 3, 2025.

Recruits will start the 26-week academy Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025, at the Michigan State Police Training Academy in Lansing.

Previous law enforcement, fishing or hunting experience or a college education are not required to become a conservation officer. The DNR says recruits will learn everything they need to be successful during the academy and additional field training.

As State of Michigan employees, recruits will get biweekly paychecks while having the option to collect benefits. Lodging, meals, uniforms and other essential supplies are provided at no cost.
