A bull and a cow escaped from a livestock trailer on US-131. Unfortunately, the bull became agitated and aggressive, leaving authorities with no choice but to shoot and kill it at the scene.

Coming in at number one on our Top 4 Animal Escapes on Michigan Freeways is Lester the steer! Lester escaped onto I-75 in Oakland County and managed to evade capture for weeks. It took Michigan State Police, along with professional wranglers on horseback, to finally lasso Lester and bring the freeway escape to an end.
Coming in at number two is a Black Angus steer that escaped from a livestock trailer on U.S. 131 in Grand Rapids. After the trailer gate opened, the bull found itself loose in the middle of rainy rush-hour traffic. Quick-thinking drivers used their vehicles to help corral the runaway steer, keeping it contained until it could be safely captured. Remarkably, the bull was back in the trailer within just 10 minutes!
This time, we slide over to Kalamazoo, where several horses decided to make a run for it! The horses escaped from their farm and made their way onto M-6 near the Kalamazoo Avenue ramp, creating quite the morning traffic jam. Michigan State Police troopers arrived and were able to safely guide the runaway horses off the highway and back to their farm.
Coming in at number four is what became known as the “8 Mile Sheep Escape” in Detroit. Somehow, a sheep found itself loose in the Motor City and decided to take a stroll down 8 Mile Road. Maybe it was looking for Eminem! The unexpected sight left drivers stunned as they encountered something you definitely don’t see every day in Detroit: a sheep casually making its way down one of the city’s busiest roads.

Escaped Bull Shot and Killed on U.S. 131
WOOD TV8 reported that a livestock trailer malfunction allowed a bull and a cow to escape onto U.S. 131 in Byron Township. Motorists tried using their vehicles to help corral the bull, but the effort appeared to make the already-agitated animal even more aggressive. After nearly 40 minutes of attempts to get the bull safely back into the trailer, and after the animal knocked down a bystander, the bull’s owner and sheriff’s deputies made the difficult decision that the bull had to be shot and killed.
Thankfully, the cow escaped unharmed during the incident and was safely loaded back into the trailer and taken away from the scene. See video of the action here.
