The giant ship that had been blocking one of the world's most important water ways the Suez Canal has finally been freed.

The 1300 foot container ship, the Ever Given, is now back in business after being stuck for a week in the Suez Canal. The ship was blocking billions of dollars of shipments from all around the world.

According to WOOD, CEO of Boskalis Peter Berdowski said, "we pulled it off!" I am excited to announce that our team of experts, working in close collaboration with the Suez Canal Authority, successfully refloated the Ever Given making free passage through the Suez Canal possible again."

The Suez Canal is in Egypt and is a crucial piece of the Egyptian revenue and lost nearly 100 million dollars in tolls because of the Ever Given blocking the canal.

There were an additional 367 ships that had massive cargos that had to sit and wait for the giant ship to be moved which held up around 40 billion dollars of trade in the week the ship was lodged. These same supply chains were already strained due to the pandemic.

Now that the ship has been moved and soon inspected, there is no word on exactly when the canal will be actually working in a normal capacity until they get the nearly 400 boats through who have been waiting to pass.

This was one big ship, it is nearly a quarter mile long and nearly, 656 feet wide and several stories tall.

During the attempts at freeing the ship, the rising and falling tides put stress on the vessel and many were concerned the ship could crack or break.

Professionals will be looking at this incident very hard to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
