This was one of the first video games I ever played. It was in a stack of NES games that my father brought in along with the popular titles like Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda. As a really young kid, I had NO clue what I had to do in this. As I got older, I started to understand it better. However, I still can't beat it.

What: You play as the mysterious unnamed Wizard who is out to find your mentor in the dark and deep dungeon. Go through doors, avoid obstacles, and try not to throw the controller through the window.

Why: Patience is key when it comes to this game. It is one of the most difficult games I have ever played in my life, and I still cannot beat it. Give it a shot someday and see how far you can get! The control is pretty easy, but it's the things that you have to do in the game is what makes it difficult. The cryptic messages, random items, hidden stuff, etc. It's not a game you should introduce right away to someone, unless they like dungeon crawlers, and that is exactly what this is. Now why is this a GTTBYD? Even with it's massive difficulty, it is kinda fun to play and you end up wondering what you can do next. One minute you are walking in a room with sinking floors, next your are on a magic carpet going through hallways. One really funny part, is that you can die in the very first room.

There is a massive difference between the NES and Genesis version though. The NES version (the one I am most familiar with) is toned down violence wise. Pop in the Genesis version and watch the blood fly! This game is insanely violent! Once you get into a battle, you can blow up the enemies head and blood goes everywhere! It's awesome!

If you are looking for an insane challenge, give The Immortal a try.
