I recently took a trip to Vancouver, one of the most bike-friendly cities in North America, and realized Grand Rapids resembled it in one key area: bicycles. In the last decade or so, Grand Rapids has embraced becoming a bicycle city. The city had its first bicycle stoplight installed in 2024, with more to come. Lime bikes and scooters are everywhere, and bike lanes are being added all around the city, like on Division Ave.

However, people overlook one aspect of this progression. I have seen these little silver stations around Grand Rapids for years, and not once have I gone up to investigate what the colorful things dangling from them are. If you find yourself with some hardware troubles on the road, GR has repair stations around the city to help you out.

They are open to the public and have served the city well since their integration. If you want to rent a bike to ride around the city, you'll need the Lime app for e-bikes/scooters, or you can rent bikes for free from select Kent District Library locations.
