Bear Hunt Goes South When Wounded Bear Attacks Hunter
Bear season has already begun but a bizarre story of a man shooting a bear that he didn't know was only wounded until the animal attacked him.
Bear Hunting in Michigan and Wisconsin
Michigan and Wisconsin have a lot of things in common like Lake Michigan, a passion for hunting and fishing, and many black bears that travel back and forth to and from the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin.
Michigan's bear hunt started September 11th with 3 different periods through October 26th. I have tags for the 3rd hunt in the Upper Peninsula and am excited about making the trip.
Wisconsin's bear hunting season is similar to Michigan's but starts and ends a little earlier than the Great Lakes state. Bear season in Wisconsin runs September 4th through October 10th.
There are some hazards with hunting bears but to be honest black bears generally do everything they can to avoid humans. The most dangerous black bear is a mother with cubs and if they are coming into your spot, you should move and make a new one far from there to avoid any confrontations. Any bear that gets cornered if you are using dogs to hunt them can be dangerous for the dogs. When you shoot a bear you have to make sure it is dead before you approach the animal or you may be in for a bad surprise.

Bear Hunt Goes South When Wounded Bear Attacks Hunter
A hunter in our neighboring state of Wisconsin shot a bear on September 6th but only wounded the animal. This goes back to its importance to do your best to make a good clean kill. Many deer hunters have run into this thinking they killed the deer to have it rise up and run off or worse case senarial attack the hunter. I remember a story of a poacher in Michigan in my hometown who shot a deer and quickly drove away taking it through town to have it wake up in the tailgate and jump out of the truck. I saw the deer do this and it blew my mind. An officer had to finish the job and then arrest the poacher.
According to MLive, the man shot the bear and began tracking it to a clearing. Before the man could approach the bear it charged him when the man was 6 feet away. The man used his sidearm to fire 8 shots at the animal but missed each time. The bear attacked the man and mauled him for less than a minute before the man's son fired one shot from his rifle saving his dad's life while ending the bears.
The man had bite marks on his head, arm, and leg plus 23 stitches to fix the skin torn on his face.
