From Farmers Markets to a Permanent Storefront

Anna's Little Bakery opened at the start of August at 5400 School Ave. Owner Anna Vreugdenhil says her passion for baking started back when she was just 11 years old, getting creative watching the Food Network and trying out new recipes in her parents' kitchen.

What began as fun kitchen experiments grew into a real passion through middle and high school. She started out baking treats for family and friends, which eventually expanded into selling at local farmers markets and pop-up events across West Michigan. Now, she has her very first permanent storefront with her dad as her business partner.

After years of searching for the right location, she found her spot right in Hudsonville.

“It’s something that I feel like our community really needed,” Vreugdenhil told WOOD TV 8. “And when I saw the space was open for retail leasing, I immediately was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s where my bakery is going to be.'”

On the drink side, she serves specialty coffee from Muskegon-based Aldea Coffee alongside her own house-made syrups and chai. An early favorite is the Brown Sugar Latte, made by pulling an espresso shot directly over real brown sugar and mixing it with homemade honey cinnamon syrup.

If you do not have a sweet tooth, she has savory options too. You can grab mini quiches like bacon and cheddar or spinach and goat cheese for a quick bite.
