A Michigan Police K-9 Treated for Exposure to Illicit Drugs
K-9s are used by every police force in Michigan and like police and firemen they have to go into extreme situations. One K-9 had to be treated for exposure to illicit drugs.
K-9s and Police
K-9s, or police dogs, are highly trained animals that assist law enforcement in various tasks.

The most common breeds used as K-9s are German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. Other breeds often used are Bloodhounds, Labrador Retrievers, and Basset Hounds. I used to book a music festival and we would bring in K-9s to check for bombs. One year an officer brought a Basset Hound and I thought he brought his pet. One of the acts used pyros and airbursts and that dog went crazy when it got near that semi filled with explosives.
K-9s must pass basic obedience training and be able to respond to their handler's commands with hesitation. Police dogs are used for a variety of tasks including drug detection, explosive identification, locating cadavers, and good old-fashioned police work like apprehending suspects.

A Michigan Police K-9 Treated for Exposure to Illicit Drugs
When police bring a K-9 in to search for drugs they are not always in packages so there are times when the police dog will come in contact with drugs out in the open. According to WOOD, that is exactly what happened when the Michigan State Police were searching a home in Flint.
The MSP officer was trained to identify if his K-9 showed any symptoms when in direct contact with exposed drugs. The officer quickly noticed the symptoms, applied emergency care, and drove the K-9 (Thor) to the Michigan State University Veterinary Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Thor did test positive for cocaine, opioids, and THC but the good news is he will make a full recovery. Somebody get Thor some treats!
