9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Expects Biggest Crowd Ever Saturday At LMCU Ballpark
This Saturday will mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America that killed nearly 3,000 Americans. Events will be held in remembrance across the country, including here in West Michigan with the Memorial Stair Climb at LMCU Ballpark.

Organizers say they expect that this year's event will be the largest yet. The event invites the public to join local first responders and climb the stairs at LMCU Ballpark for a symbolic 110 stories. Climbers are asked to fundraise for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Currently, over 250 climbers are registered, with more expected to show up on the morning of the climb.
The top individual fundraiser will get the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at Saturday Night's Whitecaps game, and all registered climbers will be able to get game tickets for 50% off.
Jon Snyder, a firefighter with Cascade Township, tells our media partner Fox 17, that he will be thinking about all those firefighters that lost their lives that day while trying to save others:
When I'm doing this climb I think a lot about that day, 9/11, you know, and the events that took place. I think about the sacrifices made. I think about the families and I think a lot about the importance of continuing to do this year after year to remember those that lost their lives.
