Happening This Weekend: Beer Festival, Hungry Hippos, and Nordic Fire
Looking for something to do this weekend in yet another deceivably sprinter (spring/winter) weekend? A lot is happening, and I've compiled a couple of things you can do with your friends or as a family.
Winter Beer Festival
Location: LMCU Ballpark (4500 W River Dr. NE, Comstock Park, MI 49321)
Considering Grand Rapids is Beer City USA, it only makes sense we would have a massive beer festival in the middle of winter. This Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm, head on over to the LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park to try "hundreds of fresh, local beers from Michigan's finest breweries". Aside from the beer, there will also be music, ice sculptures, and fire pits to sit around. The festival is outside, so those pits may come in handy!
Tickets cost $60 in advance and $70 on the day of. Your ticket covers admission and 15 beer tokens. For a full list of FAQ's, click here.
Human Hungry Hippos
Location: Rosa Parks Circle (135 Monroe Center St NW Grand Rapids, MI, 49503)
We're all familiar with the game Hungry Hungry Hippos, right? Well, have you ever wondered what that would be like if YOU were the hippo? Thanks to the World of Winter Festival, you'll be able to live out your wildest hippo fantasy as there will be a Human Hungry Hungry Hippos Tournament this Sunday from 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
There will be a Family Division and an Adult Division. Space is limited, so it is encouraged to sign up ahead of time. Full details can be found here.
Michigan Nordic Fire Festival
Location: Eaton County Fairground (1025 Cochran Ave, Charlotte, MI 48813)
This entire weekend you can live like a Viking at the Nordic Fire Festival in Charlotte, MI. Drink some mead, dress up like a Viking, throw some axes, learn about Nordic history, take a look around the vendor market, or witness live steel sword fighting. You can buy tickets for the entire weekend or individual days here (bonus: kids under 10 are free!)
Festival hours:
- Friday 5 pm -11 pm
- Saturday 10 am -11 pm
- Sunday 11 am - 4 pm
First Annual Glizzy Fest
Location: Kellogg Arena (1 McCamly Square, McCamly St S, Battle Creek, MI 49017)
A name like that sounds like a joke, but I promise this is real. This Saturday from 3-7 pm, Battle Creek is hosting its first-ever Glizzy Fest, a hot dog competition where local food vendors face off to see who has the best (or craziest) hot dogs. You can purchase tickets here (only $5 for GA).
PLUS.
There will be an extra special guest: the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile will be making an appearance as well!
There you have it! Enjoy the sunshine! If there are only events happening this weekend you think should be highlighted, let me know on Instagram @tommy140_
