The metal world's collective heart sank when it was announced in the beginning of 2012 that the godfather of metal himself, Tony Iommi, was battling lymphoma. However, the Black Sabbath guitarist has managed to persevere despite the diagnosis, and has started the new year with his latest health update.
Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi is already the 'Rock 'N' Roll Doctor,' but the iconic guitarist is now an actual doctor thanks to Coventry University. On Nov. 19, Iommi received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts "in recognition of his contribution to the world of popular music."
Two masters of the guitar are apparently making plans to create a "riffs" album. Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi and Queen's Brian May are expected to begin this riffs record soon, which will allow fans to build their own songs using the recordings.
