The delayed closure of The Paul Henry Freeway (M-6) for long needed repairs to the concrete surface has a new D-Day. Next Saturday, July 8 will see the eastbound lanes closed for repair until August 30.

The long awaited repairs for the 13 year old freeway will see the concrete replaced with an asphalt surface. The eastbound lanes from Jackson Ave. to Wilson Ave. will close July 8 through August 30, while the westbound lanes on the same stretch will be closed from September 9- October 30, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (M-DOT).

Expect increased traffic loads on US-131, I-196 and 28th and 44th streets as motorists detour from the construction zones.

M-DOT will host a public meeting on the closures this Wednesday, June 28, at the Byron Township Hall, 8085 Byron Center Avenue from 4 until 6pm.

According to a press release:

MDOT officials will provide project details, scheduling and traffic information. The public is invited to stop by anytime during the two-hour period to learn more about the project and provide comments.

The construction was originally planned for earlier in June, but was delayed.
