Detroit is a football city, there's no question about that, especially after the season the Lions had this year. Even when the team was infamously bad, the fanbase would show up. We have a truly one-of-a-kind team.

That fanbase has made its presence known yet again after decimating the previous NFL Draft Day attendance record, surprising even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

NFL Draft Day Record

This week, the NFL Draft is being held at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. The previous record for attendance, according to the Detroit Free Press, was 200,000 people in 2019 for the Draft in Nashville, Tennessee. But Detroit had nearly beaten that record before the event even started. In fact, capacity was reached so quickly, that fans were being turned away.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reported that around 150,000 people were waiting outside before the doors had even opened. The NFL tweeted a video of the crowd and it was a blue wave of fans. By the end, ESPN's Adam Schefter estimated there was a total of 275,000 fans in attendance for the Draft. This is a new record.

Draft Day Choice

With the 24th pick in the draft, the Lions selected Alabama's CB Terrion Arnold. The draft had five quarterbacks selected in the top 10, a new record. It worked out in the Lions' favor, as they were able to draft their top pick despite having a low pick number.
