A former furniture showroom in Grand Rapids' Creston Business District may be getting new life as a  two-story microbrewery.

According to MLive Media Group/ The Grand Rapids Press, Scott Schultz and Vincent Lambert are seeking to open a brewery, restaurant, and live entertainment venue at the old DeKorne Furniture storefront at 1504 Plainfield Ave. NE.

Lambert is a finance manager at the Kent County Land Bank Authority, and Shultz a former brewer at Founders' Brewing Co. and Hideout Brewing Co.

The pair is seeking special land use approval from the city Planning Commission on May 14 to open the establishment.

The building, which is kitty-corner to the Red Ball Jet Café at Plainfield and Quimby Street NE, has been vacant for almost decade.

It is the original site of DeKorne Furniture Co., a retailer which operated a showroom, re-upholstery shop and warehouse on Plainfield Ave. NE for 77 years.

Schultz told MLive,

"It's a gorgeous building. There's a lot of Grand Rapids history to it. We're going to give it a good, long second life."

Pending approval from the city Planning Commission, Schultz and Lambert and working on financing and hope to begin construction on the yet-to-be-named brewery this summer.
