Janna

I grew up in South Haven, Michigan.  Gotta love the lakeshore! Still feel a yearning for the beach, pretty much daily.  Moved to Grand Rapids to go to Calvin College. Fell in love with GR and have been here since! (Go Beer City, USA!)   Big fan of crime TV, the '90s (scrunchies! Saved By the Bell!), my own rude and feisty cat, the beach (you may have thought I covered that already, but I really really love it, OK?), reading,  people watching, drinking on patios, playing the most inappropriate cards in Cards Against Humanity, and my dear, dear family.

This Little Kid Could Not Care Less About Playing Basketball [Video]

I had parents who encouraged me to play sports when I was a kid, which was great, as long it was a sport I liked. When I insisted I did not like softball and did not want to play, my parents pulled this old mind trick on me: "How do you know you don't like it if you haven't tried it?"

So, when I was eight, I suffered through an entire softball season. It was hot, dirty, boring-- and to no surprise to me (I'd tried to tell them!), I hated it.

In retrospect, what I should have done was take a page out of this kid's book--  and just stand there, every single game, with my hands in my pockets.

If you were ever forced to play a sport you hated, you can probably relate to this little guy.

Kids Reacting to the First iPod Will Make You Feel Super Old [Video]

I had this same feeling the other day when I saw "Now That's What I Call Music: Volume 55". Fifty-Five!? I remember when the first CD came out (actually, it was probably a tape) in 1998 and Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta" and Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy" were on it.

Anyway. I'm old. And this video proves it --  these young kids are just amazed and bewildered by the very first iPod, which came out in 2001.
