I didn't realize left lane drivers were an issue, until I saw it on one of those "Only in Michigan" lists. (In Driver's Ed we were all taught "Drive Right, Pass Left", correct?...)

Apparently Michiganders are guilty of cruising in the left lane too long, and Michigan State Police are going to start cracking down on it, WZZM-13 reports.

According to a news release, troopers in Lakeview and Rockford will be on the lookout for drivers hanging out in the left lane.

The initiative follows numerous complaints about West Michigan drivers and is being billed as "educational".

Lt. Chris McIntire of the MSP's Rockford Post said in the release, "Many people simply don’t realize that the left lane is reserved for the passing motorist. Besides being generally disruptive to traffic flow, this violation can actually be dangerous, as frustrated motorists attempt risky maneuvers to get around the log jam."

Here's the Michigan law regarding use of the left lane.
