Your Spare Change Could Become an Early Retirement

Most people use plastic to pay for almost everything these days. Heck, some places won't even accept cash, I ran into that recently at a concert venue in Detroit.

Even if you are primarily a plastic card carrier you still may have a jar of change you can rummage through some time rather than scrolling down Facebook where you probably found this story.

Recently a story popped up regarding the penny pictured above being worth $300,000. One of the project's my son and I will be doing this winter when the weather is bad is combing over ever piece of change we have to find out if we have one of these pennies. Now I have learned about a dime that is not that old that could be worth up to a half a million dollars.

Rare Dime Could Be Worth Half a Million Dollars

What might look like dirty old change that you have been collecting in your vehicles ash tray or change jar or piggie bank at home could turn into an early retirement fund for you or a college education for your kids.

The picture above shows a 1975 dime that has an "S" above the year which is worth only 10 cents.

As you can see in the picture above, the 1975 dime does not have an "S" above the year. As they say at the casino, "Jackpot!".  I can't guarantee you will get the whole half a million dollars this coin is worth but if you get anywhere close with a dime you think is worth 10 cents sitting in a jar, it is well worth the effort to sort through some spare change in your spare time.

You don't have to be a serious coin collector to score big with a piece of change. There are people out there like "The Coin Guy" on TikTok and other places who have done all the hard work for you. You just have to take the time to sift through your old coins.
