Metallica have posted a recap video of last weekend's 2013 Orion Music + More festival from Belle Isle in Detroit.
Oxford, England quintet Foals have been in the music scene for quite awhile now, but it wasn't until the past year that they've been making waves in America. The "Inhaler" hitmakers were one of the featured performers at Orion Music + More in Detroit and talked to us about breaking into the U.S. market, their new album Holy Fire and more.
Yet another must-see metal tour has just been announced. Intergalactic metalmongers GWAR have just announced a handful of North American tour dates with Hatebreed and crossover thrash act Iron Reagan, which boasts members of Municipal Waste and Cannabis Corpse.
Metal legends Black Sabbath released their new studio album, 13, and a new music video for the song "End of the Beginning" this week.
The Orion Music + More festival at Belle Isle in Detroit was an awesome experience this past weekend. However, the best highlight from the event was getting to interview Deftones. The alt metal veterans shared their thoughts on adapting over the years, the importance of rest, founding bassist Chi Cheng's impact on the band and more.
Six months after it was initially announced, Metallica's Orion Music + More festival experiment at Belle Isle in Detroit is over. Despite a small number of setbacks, Orion seems to have found a new home in Michigan. The metal titans closed out Day 2 Sunday night (June 9), unlike their middle-of-the-day secret performance on Saturday, literally with a bang during their epic 2 hour plus performance.
Orion Music + More Festival is more than just the music (although a lot of it is all about the music.) In addition to all of the bands playing, each of the members of Metallica brought a long a little bit of themselves along. For example, Kirk is a HUGE horror movie fan and has one of the largest collections of memorabilia in the country. He set up a mini-mausoleum at the festival to show off some of his stuff. Check it out after the jump.
It seemed appropriate that the Red Hot Chili Peppers closed out the first day of Orion Music + More at Belle Isle in Detroit. After all, half the members are Michigan natives. The rock and roll hall of famers went through a two hour set Saturday night (June 8) that was energetic from beginning to end.
Metallica surprised Orion festival goers with a secret show to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first studio album, Kill 'Em All. The band listed themselves as 'dehaan,' an unknown band from Baltimore. Some fans seemed like they knew that Metallica would take the stage instead of this mystery band, but the vast majority of the festival had no clue what was about to happen.
