Ava Swiss and her brother survived the school shooting last November in Oxford, which prompted her to audition for 'America's Got Talent'.

Swiss Sang A Song To Honor Those Lost In The Oxford School Tragedy

Ava is currently a senior at Oxford High School, where the shooting occurred on November 30, 2021. Ava told the judges prior to her performance that she chose the Lauren Daigle song, 'Remember', because four of her classmates were lost in the shooting, and she wanted to remember them.

Oxford High Senior Said Music Helped Her Heal After Shootings

Swiss also admitted that her and her brother vowed they would never return to school following the incident, but recently found the courage to go back, and that signaled to them that things were getting better.

When asked, Swiss told judge Simon Cowell that music has been a form of therapy to help her deal with her grief, helping her to remember the positive from the event, the community coming together and the good times they had shared prior to the event.

The emotional performance garnered Swiss a standing ovation from the studio audience and the panel of four judges.

"The fact that you can break through that and shine is inspirational for every human being," Howie Mandle told her. Robotic judge Heidi Klum even appeared to demonstrate an actual emotion, by telling her she was "incredible".

Sophia Vergara added that Swiss didn't just sing, she "showed us your feelings". But the biggest praise came from noted curmudgeon Simon, who told Swiss she was gutsy and he would never forget her performance.

While Simon's heart appeared to melt, his Botox held firm, and he still can't move his eyebrows.

The Live Quarterfinals Are Next For Ava Swiss

Swiss advanced to the Vegas round of the show, and will perform live on the stage in the quarterfinal round next month. The date has yet to be determined, but the live shows start on August 9th.
