Things Are About to Change if You Ride a Bus In Grand Rapids
If you frequently use the Rapids bus system in Grand Rapids changes are being made and these may affect your route.
Ride The Rapid
If you live and work near downtown Grand Rapids, a great money saver is using the local bus system called the Rapid.
With gas prices as high as they are, people save big bucks by using the Rapid system and some don't even have a car because the system gets them to and from where they need to be.
If you are an adult single rider you can take the Rapid bus in Grand Rapids for a one-way ride that will cost $1.75. That is a whole lot cheaper than paying for gas, paying for parking in a garage or a meter. You can also get a monthly pass for $47 in a program called the smart card. $47 is cheaper than most tanks of gas so there are a lot of savings using the Rapid.
Will Your Rapid Route Be Affected During the Winter Schedule?
When the winter months arrive the roads change a bit in West Michigan and so do the bus schedules.
According to WOOD, the new Rapid schedule will include reducing the frequency of half of its morning routes. This reduction will cause the wait times to increase which means standing or sitting outside longer.
If you use the bus to get to and from the Gerald R. Ford Airport, route 27 will be the only one that will see an increase in frequency. Using the bus for an airport flight makes sense and saves money since you don't have to pay to leave your vehicle parked in the lot while you are out of town.
If you frequently use Rapid for work, shopping, school, or doctor appointments, none of the routes will be canceled. Routes 2,3,4,5,8,9,11,14,27 or 28 will have longer wait times for the winter months. To learn more about the Rapid bus service click here.
