Travelers may want to plan ahead this summer.

Beginning Friday, June 10th, construction will begin near the Gerald R. Ford International Airport which posted about it on their Facebook page. The Kent County Road Commission will be widening the lanes on eastbound 44th Street so there can be two left-turn lanes to northbound Patterson Ave. Per the press release,

The work includes asphalt and concrete pavement removal, concrete curb and gutter, concrete pavement, pavement markings, restoration and traffic signal modifications.

The construction may obviously cause some backups and delays for those headed to the airport so it's advised that travelers plan accordingly. There will still be one lane going in each direction along with left turns at the intersection.

The purpose of the road project is to minimize congestion and the new concrete will also be made to handle the number of commercial trucks that travel on that road. Construction is expected to be completed in August.

In addition to the construction outside of the airport, the terminal is also getting a makeover. Because of both of these factors, CEO of Ford Airport says people should arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled takeoff.
