What started as a traffic stop in Kentwood quickly turned into a major narcotics operation. Authorities were able to take over two pounds of cocaine, deadly fentanyl, cash, and an illegal gun off West Michigan streets.

The Kentwood Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit initially pulled over a vehicle, which turned up thousands of dollars in cash and a mix of street drugs. Detectives did not stop at the side of the road, though.

Using evidence gathered during that initial stop, officers secured and executed a search warrant at a secondary location, where they uncovered a large stash of illegal narcotics.

Here is what officers seized:

Initial Traffic Stop Seizures

  • $21,629 in cash
  • 8.8 grams of cocaine
  • 4.1 grams of ecstasy
  • 60 hydrocodone pills

Search Warrant Seizures

  • 1,002.4 grams (over 2.2 lbs) of cocaine
  • 8.2 grams of brown fentanyl
  • 2.1 grams of purple fentanyl
  • 18.9 grams of unknown orange pills
  • 4.4 grams of unknown pills
  • 1 illegally possessed firearm and ammunition

The investigation resulted in one arrest.

Kentwood Police stressed that proactive traffic enforcement remains a key tool for getting illegal weapons and narcotics off local streets.
