Bear Killed, Skinned In Dorm By College Students
Two college students at a major university killed a bear, then brought it back to their dorm to skin and harvest the meat.
I was very surprised when I heard about a pair of college students doing some bear hunting rather than studying or partying. It seems today’s college students are turning to hunting to save money and source their own meat.
Bear Hunting Season Begins
Michigan's 2025 black bear season started on September 10 in the Upper Peninsula and on September 13 in the northern Lower Peninsula. Black bear season starts roughly around the same time in states that have a hunting season for the animal.
There are a variety of ways people hunt for black bears from using long guns, high caliber pistols, archery, crossbow, some even use dogs to track the animals. Many hunt over legal bait piles in states that allow them.

Hunters must hold a valid license and hunt only during the designated bear season.
Bear Killed and Skinned By Students In College Dorm
When I first heard about some college students bagging a black bear and skinning it in a dorm, I immediately thought of Northern Michigan University, Lake Superior State, and Michigan Technological University which are all in the Upper Peninsula. All are in black bear country and several students who attend those schools are from the areas the schools are located.
According to WOOD TV, a couple of students attending Cornell University in upstate New York, had a valid hunting license and harvested a black bear. What shocked fellow students was the fact the two student hunters skinned and processed the black bear in the dorm building.

A complaint was made to police about what the students did with the bear, but they had legal hunting license and the university will not be charging them. Looks like these two students will have plenty of protein to help get them through their school year while saving a lot of money at the same time.
