The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has relaxed its mask mandate for the state - primarily for outdoor gatherings of less than 100 people.

Late Thursday it was announced that the MDHHS had issued new guidelines when it comes to masking up in the state.

NBC25News.com reports that the new guidelines go into effect beginning Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Through May 31, 2021, the MDHHS says that masks are generally not required outdoors unless a gathering has 100 or more people.

In addition, the MDHHS says,

  • Anyone who is fully vaccinated and is not experiencing symptoms will not be required to wear a mask at residential gatherings or indoor events.
  • Large outdoor gatherings such as festival, fairs and golf tournaments may now exceed the previous 1,000 person limit as long as they adhere to the plans set forth by he MDHHS Large Outdoor Event Guidance, and no more than 20 persons per 1,000 square feet are gathered in any space available to patrons.
  • Stadiums may now operate at 20 percent of their fixed seating capacity so long as they are adhering to enhanced protocols.
  • Residential outdoor gatherings are allowed up to 50 people. If density does not exceed 20 persons per 1,000 square feet of usable outdoor space, up to 300 people are allowed to be gathered.

This is a developing story.
