Michigan Town Named One of the Best Weekend Trips in the U.S. for 2024

Wow, one Michigan town is raking in the honors recently! After being named the No. 2 best coastal small town in the U.S., AND ranked among the top twenty beaches in towns in U.S., this Michigan location has even more to brag about!

Travel publication Time Out sought to find the best weekend getaways across the country. Rather than big cities like L.A. or New York, they opted for smaller towns with great art scenes, restaurants, views, and activities. They say these 17 locations should definitely be on your travel radar in 2024.

The Michigan town named among the Best Weekend Trips in the U.S. in 2024 is Saugatuck!

Now, I DO think Saugatuck should have been further up on the list... Time Out places it at No. 15... but still cool it's included.

Time Out praises Saugatuck for its charm and amazing location on Lake Michigan. The publication also shouts out the town's vibrant arts community, thanks to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts and the Chicago Art Institute’s Oxbow School of Art and Artists’ Residency.

Local businesses that get recognition are Pennyroyal Cafe and Provisions and Virtue Cider (though technically its located in Fennville).

James Beard-nominated restaurant The Southerner also gets a mention, known for its fried chicken and other southern food staples.

Time Out also gives Tulip Time a mention - of course locals know that's Holland and not Saugatuck - but certainly worth the short drive for visitors!

Saugatuck's Oval beach is also in the running for the best beach in Michigan. Vote for your favorite below!
