Michigan Spot Crowned One of the 20 Best Beach Towns in U.S.

Fresh after getting named the No. 2 best coastal small town in the U.S., one Michigan location has even more to brag about!

The spot is being honored as one of the 20 best beach towns in the entire country! Travel writers from Thrillist say they have found the best of the best waterfront towns in the U.S. - "world class destinations" where there is plenty to do and the food and drink are spectacular.

The Michigan city to make the cut is Saugatuck!

Nicknamed "The Great Art-Doors," Saugatuck/Douglas is home to Ox Bow School of Art, multiple galleries, and antique shops.

In terms of top places to visit, Thrillist shouts out the stunning Oval Beach.

They also suggest climbing the 282 steps to the top of Mt. Baldhead for a gorgeous view of the beach and dunes. (I remember doing it as a kid, and my calves hurt just looking at these stairs! But still, totally worth it.)

There are so many great bars and restaurants in Saugatuck too. Specifically, Thrillist mentions Saugatuck Brewing Company, New Holland Spirits Tasting Room, and The Southerner, which serves up Fried Chicken and other southern staples from James Beard Award finalist chef Matthew Millar.

Another "must visit" is Uncommon Coffee Roasters, a farm-to-cup coffee shop and roasting facility with a bakery.
