Michigan's Top Bed and Breakfasts

USA Today and 10Best asked readers to vote for their favorite bed and breakfast spots. A panel of experts chose 20 charming inns for their comfort, style, and hospitality, and then it was put up to a public vote.

The results are in and two Michigan inns are being crowned among the nation's best! Both are in Saugatuck. Congratulations to Judson Heath Colonial Inn and Wickwood Inn!

Wickwood Inn: A Saugatuck Landmark

Wickwood Inn nabbed the No. 6 spot. Nestled just one block from the Kalamazoo River and minutes from Lake Michigan, Wickwood Inn has been a Saugatuck favorite for decades. Originally built in 1937, the home once belonged to Frank Wicks, the mayor of Saugatuck in the 1950s.

In 1981, new owners transformed the residence into a boutique inn styled after London’s iconic Brown’s Hotel. Claiming the title of Saugatuck’s first bed and breakfast, Wickwood Inn blends historic charm with modern luxury.

The inn features 11 uniquely appointed rooms with plush bedding and elegant furnishings. Guests can relax by the cozy fireplace, wander the picturesque gardens, or take in a West Michigan sunset from the property. A seasonally inspired breakfast greets visitors each morning, and locally sourced charcuterie is served in the evenings.

Judson Heath Colonial Inn: Hip, Historic, and Nationally Recognized

Also located in downtown Saugatuck, Judson Heath Colonial Inn brings history and modern comforts together. It was voted the No. 3 best bed and breakfast in the entire coutnry. Built in 1837, the inn has served as a stagecoach stop, private residence, and resort over the decades.

Restored in 2017 by Stephen Boyd and Jennifer Davenport, it now features eight guest rooms with antique furnishings, private baths, and even some Jacuzzis.

Guests can stroll the manicured gardens, curl up in cozy common areas, and enjoy gourmet breakfasts made with locally sourced ingredients. Its prime location makes Saugatuck’s art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and the famous Oval Beach just steps away.
