Michigan City in the Running for Best Summer Travel Destination in the Entire U.S.

It's almost summer! And luckily, here in Michigan, we don't have to travel far to get to some awesome vacation spots.

One Michigan spot is getting national attention as one of the top summer trip destinations in the entire country. It actually nabbed the No. 1 spot last year.

USA Today and 10Best's travel editors teamed up with a panel of experts to choose 20 must-see places for a summer vacation - everything "from picturesque national parks to sleepy mountain towns to breathtakingly beautiful beaches", Now it's up to a public vote.

Mackinac Island is up for "Favorite Summer Travel Destination in the U.S." in a USA Today and 10Best poll.

It's the only Michigan location in the running, and one of the only Midwest locations. Door County, Wisconsin, and Sandusky, Ohio are the others.

Known for its fudge and horse-drawn carriages, Mackinac Island on the shores of Lake Huron is definitely a Michigan summertime favorite.

There's Mackinac Island State Park, where you can hike, bike, kayak, and take photos of the local natural beauty, including the stunning limestone Arch Rock.

Also, the great shops, bars, and restaurants, and historic Fort Mackinac. There's great golf on the island too!
