Chaos at Funeral After Man Points Gun at Pastor
Gun-related stories make the news in Michigan almost daily, but it’s far rarer for someone to pull a gun at a funeral and aim it at the pastor.
Gun Violence in Michigan
Michigan ranks 22nd overall in the nation for gun violence, while that’s better than being first, ideally the state wouldn’t appear on the list at all. Each year, an average of 1,423 people are killed and 2,983 are injured by guns in Michigan, a staggering number, with most of these shootings completely senseless.
Detroit, Michigan, was once known as the murder capital of the U.S. during the 1970s and 1980s, and Flint held that grim title in 2010. But violent crime has fallen dramatically in 2025, reaching historic lows not seen since 1965, a major improvement.

Man Pulls Gun at Funeral, Points it at Pastor
According to WXYZ-TV, Pastor Darthanian Nichols was officiating a funeral at McFall Brothers Funeral Home when he asked the attendees to be seated. A man mourning his younger brother refused to sit and then pulled a gun, pointing it at the pastor.
As people began fleeing the funeral home, Pastor Nichols recalled thinking, 'In my mind, I braced myself for the worst-case scenario, being shot.' Thankfully, he was able to de-escalate the situation, and no one was injured.

Police quickly apprehended the gunman near the funeral home shortly after the incident.
