Michigan ranks 22nd overall in the nation for gun violence, while that’s better than being first, ideally the state wouldn’t appear on the list at all. According to WXYZ-TV, Pastor Darthanian Nichols was officiating a funeral at McFall Brothers Funeral Home when he asked the attendees to be seated. A man mourning his younger brother refused to sit and then pulled a gun, pointing it at the pastor.

As people began fleeing the funeral home, Pastor Nichols recalled thinking, 'In my mind, I braced myself for the worst-case scenario, being shot.' Thankfully, he was able to de-escalate the situation, and no one was injured.
