Michigan Man Charged in Alleged Threats to ICE Agents
ICE agents and law enforcement officers were allegedly threatened by a Michigan man who has since been arrested and charged.
How Long Has ICE Operated in Michigan?

ICE agents have maintained a presence in Michigan for more than two decades, largely due to the state’s location along the U.S.-Canada border. Recent ICE operations have drawn attention because of tactics including masked agents, vehicle stops, and residential arrests, which critics say differ from previous enforcement practices.

Some critics have compared some recent ICE enforcement tactics to those used by authoritarian governments, citing the presence of masked agents in residential areas of Michigan in January 2025. The operations have drawn opposition from some community members who object to warrantless arrests and concerns over the potential detention or deportation of individuals who are not involved in criminal activity.

Michigan Man Accused of Threatening to Kill ICE Agents

According to WOOD TV8, 41-year-old Michael Petersen of Melvindale was arrested and charged for allegedly threatening to kill ICE agents and law enforcement officers. If convicted, Petersen could face up to 15 years in federal prison for allegedly threatening a federal official and using interstate communications to make the threat.

Prosecutors allege that Petersen encouraged others to shoot law enforcement officers and used phrases such as “death to them all” while expressing hostility toward authorities.
Investigators also allege that Petersen made statements about using explosives and armor-piercing rounds against federal agents.

Prosecutors allege that Petersen specifically targeted the ICE agent involved in the shooting death of Renee Good. Petersen is currently out on bond under several court-ordered conditions, including a ban on leaving the state, possessing firearms, or using social media. He is also required to wear a GPS monitoring device.
