With more than 400 breweries across the state, Michigan is definitely great for beer lovers!

According to the Michigan Brewers Guild, the Mitten State ranks 8th in the nation in breweries, microbreweries, and brewpubs.

When you think about how many breweries are spread across the country, it's an honor that two in Michigan are ranked among the top ten "must-visit"!

Yardbarker has put together a list of the twenty top breweries in the U.S.

From well-known breweries to hidden gems, they say these "bucket list" breweries "quench the thirst of any craft beer enthusiast."

Coming in at No. 7 on Yarbarker's list is Grand Rapids' Founders Brewing Company.

Their All Day IPA is among the top-selling craft beers in the country. Founders lay claim to being one of the biggest breweries in the state and infuse their Michigan heritage in all of their beers. Their Grand Rapids facility features all of their core beers along with plenty of taproom exclusives, which — along with their unique building that formerly was a trucking depot — makes Founders a must-visit when near the Great Lakes State.

Following right after, ranked as the No. 8 "must-visit" brewery in the U.S. is Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo and Comstock.

Michigan is home to some major players in the beer scene, and Bell's is near the top of the list. Their flagship beers feature Two Hearted IPA, Hazy Hearted IPA, and their Oberon beers. Visitors can check out their two locations in the state, including where it all began in Kalamazoo.

According to Yardbarker, the No. 1 brewery in the country is Sam Adams in Boston.

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery.
