For Food, Two Dive Bars in Michigan Were Named Best Hidden Gems

Michigan is full of unpretentious, laid back bars that serve as great places to gather with friends, catch the game, and enjoy some adult beverages.

Plenty of Mitten State pubs have awesome food too - and two are being recognized among the top ten dive bars for food in the entire country!

Geek Nexus surveyed thousands of bar-goers to discover the dive bars serving the best food in the U.S. - "places where gourmet meets grunge, and the best bites are found in the most unassuming places."

All in all, they came up with 120 dive bars that are hidden culinary gems.

Coming in at No. 10 is the Checker Bar in Detroit, Mich.

Close to sports and all the downtown happenings, Checker Bar is known for its burgers, pizza, wings, and nachos. Ever wanted to order just a basket full of bacon? You can do that at Checker Bar!

According to Geek Nexus, "This spot keeps it simple, satisfying, and perfect for a no-frills night out."

The No. 7 spot on the list goes to The Old Shillelagh in Detroit. 

The iconic Irish dive bar is a short walk to Detroit's most popular venues and hosts live music every weekend.

At The Old Shillelagh you'll find elevated Irish comfort food like the Reuben sandwich, shepherd's pie, and fish and chips.
