Merry Stinkmas.

I experienced an unpleasant surprise as I drove along M-6 near 8th Ave. on Saturday afternoon. It wasn't a pothole. That wouldn't have been a surprise. The surprise came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. It was not the kind of surprise you want around Christmas. It was a smell. A days-old meat, landfill-like smell.

Hundreds of pounds of meat scraps, hot dogs and ground meat, were spilled onto 8th Ave. near M-6 on Monday, Dec. 16. The road was sprayed off the same day as the spill and Jamestown Township Fire Chief Duane Miedema told woodtv.com, “It doesn’t smell bad. You can smell that it smells like sausage when you get up close to it, but it doesn’t smell bad. It would probably be different if it was hotter.”

It's different now. The meat has had a weekend of sun and warmer temperatures making the smell is very noticeable along M-6. I can imagine it's only worse if you get onto 8th Ave. I didn't stop to check.

In summary: stink, stank, stunk.
