We've already told you about free outdoor movies going on across West Michigan and free fitness classes in Grand Rapids.  And now, Kent County is getting in on it with a couple of community events that basically bundle a whole afternoon of free stuff into one place.

Two Community Fest Dates Announced

After a successful first year, Kent County is expanding its Community Fest this summer with two free events, one in the northern part of the county and one in the south, so both sides get a shot at it.

The South Community Fest will take place Wednesday, July 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brewer Park in Byron Center. The North Community Fest is set for Thursday, August 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kent County North Campus in Cedar Springs.

What Families Can Expect

Both events are designed as easy, drop-in summer hangouts where families can show up, grab some food, and let the kids burn energy while also learning more about county services.

Food trucks will be on site along with free ice cream while supplies last. Kids will have plenty to do with face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon animals, and other hands-on activities that will keep them busy.

There will also be big trucks on display, including fire engines from the City of Cedar Springs and road equipment from the Kent County Road Commission. The Sheriff’s Office will bring its Mounted Unit along with live K-9 demonstrations.

Families with school-aged children can also pick up free school supplies for grades K through 12 while supplies last. The Kent County Health Department will be on site offering required school vaccines.

More than 20 county departments and community partners will be set up at meet-and-greet tables, including elections, veterans services, parks, and more, giving residents a chance to ask questions and connect with resources.
