Michigan Police Offering Free Bicycle Training This Weekend
Whenever someone talks about learning something new, they tend to say, "It's as easy as riding a bike!" When they say this, I always have to chuckle because I don't think they remember how difficult it was to ride a bike. Do you remember the utter fear of taking your training wheels off, wobbling as you go down the driveway while your parents are shouting to aim for the grass so that if you fall off, at least it won't hurt (as badly)?
I'm getting shivers just writing about it. Thankfully, the people in our community whose job it is to keep us safe are hosting a "free bike rodeo" to teach kids how to ride a bike the safe way, and if that isn't enough to interest you, there will be free ice cream. Not all heroes wear capes.
A Free Bike Rodeo
As a kid, one of the best things to do during the summer is riding a bike. Learning (and teaching!) to ride a bike can be a stressful endeavour, so why not leave it to someone else a little more qualified to shoulder that stress for you? That's why the Grandville Police, Kent County Sheriff's Office, Walker Police, Wyoming Police, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Rivertown Crossings are coming together to teach kids to ride a bike safely, as well as offer a helmet safety check.
This will take place on Saturday, April 26th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Rivertown Crossings Mall - Dick's Sproting Goods Parking Lot.
The event is free for everyone, and while it is encouraged to bring your own bike, there will be a limited number of bikes available for those unable to bring their own. Get your kiddos ready for summer with this fun event.
