Need a Fresh Start? Grand Rapids Is Hosting a Free Expungement Fair to Help Residents Clear Their Records
Have you ever applied for a job or a new apartment, only to feel like a mistake from years ago is still hanging over your head? A past record has a way of shutting doors before you even get a chance to walk through them.

If that sounds familiar, there is a free event coming up in town that might help you get a fresh start.
Grand Rapids Clean Slate Expungement Fair 2026
The City of Grand Rapids is hosting its fifth annual Clean Slate GR Expungement Fair coming up August 22. The whole point is to help people clear eligible convictions from their public records.

Not really sure what "expungement" means? Basically, it sets aside past convictions so they stop showing up on standard background checks for housing or employment. Getting a record cleared on your own can be a long, costly, and confusing process.
This fair puts everything you need under one roof for free. You can show up, talk with attorneys, get free background checks and fingerprinting, and work with a notary to file your application right there.
