Fighting near Rosa Parks Circle downtown Grand Rapids has increased in recent months.

Grand Rapids Police are working to stop the violence by moving the issue to the forefront of their agenda, Fox 17 reports.

The latest incident occurred July 28 and involved several people hitting and kicking a man who passed by. The attack was caught on video and the police asked for the pulblic's help identifying the suspects.

According to Fox 17 this is the fourteenth assault to take place in the Rosa Parks Circle area since May of this year.

“The video tells a story," GRPD Sergeant Terry Dixon said, "and that story is – the ultimate bottom line here is that, that kind of situation or thing here in Grand Rapids will not be tolerated by the Grand Rapids Department or the citizens.”

Grand Rapids Police currently have access to one camera near Rosa Parks Circle; Police are working with surrounding businesses to use their security footage to increase surveillance of the downtown area.

Police are also increasing patrols near Rosa Parks Circle in the hope of cutting down on violent crime.

Five arrests have been made so far in the July 28 incident. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
