West Michigan residents are fortunate to call Grand Rapids home. Known as one of the safest and cleanest cities in the country, Grand Rapids offers something to enjoy year-round. But when the warmer months arrive, downtown truly comes alive with festivals, events, outdoor dining, and activities that make summer in the city especially memorable.
Calder Plaza serves as the backdrop for many of the city’s biggest celebrations, including the Festival of the Arts, the Grand Rapids Asian-Pacific Festival, the Justice 4 All Juneteenth Jam, the Grand Rapids Pride Festival, the Dozynki Polish Festival, the A Glimpse of Africa Festival, and many more throughout the summer season.

Rosa Parks Circle comes alive throughout the summer with events like Swing Dancing on Tuesday nights, the Michigan Cider Fest, the Midwest Groove Festival, the Polish Festival, the Confluence Festival, and as a centerpiece for the ArtPrize Markets. These are just a few of the many great events that make downtown Grand Rapids such a vibrant destination during the warmer months.
One event at Rosa Parks Circle has become a summertime favorite for downtown workers and visitors alike. Happening every Thursday during the lunch hour all summer long, it gives people working downtown a chance to step away from the office and enjoy the city, while also giving residents another great reason to head downtown for a fun mid-day break.
