Keeping the kids busy and entertained during summer break can be a real challenge—but the City of Grand Rapids is here to help once again! For the eighth year in a row, free summer camps are being offered for children ages 6 through 12, and registration is officially open.

Summer camp is such a right of passage for kids. I have great memories of going as a child! It's a great way for kids to stay active, make new friends, and try out different activities. Summer camps can be expensive though— that's why I think its great the City of Grand Rapids offers them for free!

Where and When are Grand Rapids Free Summer Camps?

This year, there are three camp sessions to choose from:

  1. June 9 – June 27, weekdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  2. June 30 – August 1, weekdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  3. August 4 – August 22, weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Garfield and Roosevelt locations only)

Camps will take place at Garfield Park, Roosevelt Park, and new this year: Grand Rapids Christian Elementary, stepping in for MLK Park as it's under renovation.

Activities include arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, sports, swimming, STEM projects, and more.

Interested in Being a Camp Counselor?

The City of Grand Rapids is also looking for enthusiastic summer camp counselors. Counselors will guide kids through daily activities, keep things running smoothly, and make sure everyone has a safe, fun experience.

Spring is in full swing and that means West Michigan's many fruit farms are gearing up for the season. Strawberries will be ready for picking in June, followed by cherries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and peaches in July.
